Hydration is part of preparation and performance
Water supports normal body function, temperature regulation, and physical activity. During longer or hotter sessions, sweat losses can increase, and replacing fluid becomes more important.
Electrolytes have a role
Sodium and other electrolytes help maintain fluid balance and normal muscle and nerve function. Needs vary with activity, sweat rate, diet, climate, and individual circumstances. More is not always better.
Build a practical hydration routine
Begin activity reasonably hydrated, make drinking water accessible, pay attention to thirst and conditions, and adjust for prolonged heat exposure. Avoid forcing excessive amounts of water. For demanding work in heat, take appropriate rest and cooling breaks and follow workplace heat-safety guidance.
